Ragwort & Bale Low Bowl

Kathryn Hearn made this vessel in response to a farmer friend who asked another farmer to bale one of his fields of hay for his own horses. The farmer friend did so but also cut the Ragwort wild flower in with it. This is culturally very shocking in the fens as he should have ensured that he hadn’t, as it can kill horses if they eat it. There are always norms to be followed in any society and if transgressed the implications are deadly and change communities. The human condition is of continuing interest for her work. The bowl is made with hand extruded porcelain paperclay, straps with coloured slipcast porcelain inclusions. this bowl is a precursor to a series of wall pieces. The bowl in stamped with the makers mark.
