An incredibly delicate and intricate piece of ceramic art by Sarah Dalton – the form of which takes inspiration from Japanese traditional miniature tea bowls. The fine white earthenware provides an excellent surface for her artwork; achieved using a combination of underglazes, oxides and engobes (with satin matte overglaze). The painted owl and surrounding branch-work, set against a backdrop of wild landscape aims to invoke the atmosphere of the North Pennine moorland where Sarah lives and works. A tiny pool of translucent scarlet glass fusion adds further drama to the base of the interior. The artist’s initials are inscribed into the base.
