Kurinuki black clay vessel

Kurinuki pot in smooth black clay. Kurinuki is an ancient Japanese hand-forming process where you start from a solid block of clay. You carefully hollow out the inside and texture or carve the outside. It is a substracting technique more akin to sculpture.

Finished with a celadon glaze, that breaks dark brown to black on edges and goes turquoise matt where it is thinner. The maker’s mark is on the bottom of the piece.
