Anagama fired tsubo

Anagama fired jar from the May firing at the Oxford anagama kiln.  The pots went in the kiln completely unglazed and were wood-fired for 3 days and 3 nights. The kiln reached 1300 degrees C which means the clay is absolutely vitrified. All the colours, hues and marks are the result of flames and ash in the kiln atmosphere. This one gathered lots of ash that melted into several bidiro (when you can feel the thickness of the natural glaze droplet). The other side is darker and provides contrast for the side with more glossy ashing.

The maker’s mark is at the bottom of the pot.
