Dorset Art weeks is one of the largest open studio events in the country. It brings together many different artists from across Dorset to talk and engage with the public about their work. Cambridge Ceramics potter, Tiffany Scull, explains why she decided to participate this year:

‘It has been quite a few years since I took part in DAWS and this year felt like the right time to throw open my doors and welcome people in to browse and talk about my current work which I am so looking forward too. With such a difficult year it has been so fantastic to have an event to look forward to. I have chosen to go bright and colourful spending many hours looking at amazing tropical fish, birds and flowers in my books.

‘Over the last few months I have been creating some new and exciting tropical inspired sgraffito ceramic pieces for this event. Many of these pieces have been on my to make list for a few years and I have been waiting to find the time to explore these themes further. I have also been developing deeper carving, new slip colours and new ways of applying the slips to create more vibrant colours. This is a great opportunity to talk to me about my journey, thoughts and how I design and create my unique and detailed pieces.

‘On display in my studio will be an extensive selection of sgraffito ceramics showing British wildlife as well as vessels and wall hangings covered in anemones, crabs, seahorses and octopus also hummingbirds, orchids, tree frogs and geckos.

‘I have created a new series of giclee prints and art cards carrying on the tropical theme of hummingbirds, Birds of Paradise and ornamental gold fish. These include a selection of new black and white Art card designs which can only be purchased from my studio. These works will be available to buy in person and through my online shop which will go live Friday the 21st of May.

Tiffany Scull’s studio will be open daily from 10am – 4pm from Saturday the 22nd May until Sunday the 6 June. There will be a Covid 19 safety plan in place in her studio at Unit 7, Isle of Portland Heritage trust, Reforne, Easton, Portland, Dorset, DT5 2AN. If you would like to visit Tiffany’s studio at other times by appointment, just send her an email tiffanyscullceramics@btinternet.com or call Tiffany on her mobile 0752 8801 001.
