John Pollex has been making pots for last 50yrs. He trained with Potters Colin Pearson and Brian Newman. His move to Plymouth in 1971 was the start of a 25yr period making traditional English Slipware. A change of direction in the mid eighties followed after seeing an exhibition of paintings by Howard Hodgkin. This resulted in the use of a range of coloured slips. Various painters, mainly Hans Hofmann, Patrick Heron, David Hockney and Robert Natkin, have influenced the use of colour. The surface of his pots has now become the canvas for his painting with slip.
